From 1623 until 1626 Paulus Bor lived in Italy. He made such progress that Jacob van Campen, the famous Dutch architect and painter (who also lived in Amersfoort) engaged him to work on the decoration of prince Frederik Hendriks palace at Honselaarsdijk, which has unfortunately since been destroyed.
Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna of Russia (Russian: Анна Павловна; St. Petersburg, 18 January 1795 – The Hague, 1 March 1865) was a queen consort of the Netherlands. She was born as the eighth child and sixth daughter of tsar Paul I of Russia. In the Netherlands, due to nineteenth century Dutch transliteration conventions, she is better known as Anna Paulowna.
In 1809 her brother the tsar rejected Napoleon's offer to marriage Anna!
Maude played the role of Rosamund de Clifford in a production of Becket. It was her first role with Sir Henry Irving's company. She toured with him frequently between 1902 and 1905 playing such roles as "Julie" in "The Lyons Mail", "Norah Brewster" in "Waterloo" and "Marie" in "Louis XI".
Nicholas (Nikolai) Alexandrovich Romanov was born in 1843. He was the eldest son of tsar Nicholas I of Russia. Dutch queen Anna Paulowna, his great-aunt, was one of his godmothers. When his father became tsar in 1855 he became the tsarevich, the crown prince.
He was a gifted, attractive young man, trained by the finest tutors available in the expectation he would one day succeed his father. He was the first member of the Russian royal family whose interest in photography has been documented.
In the summer of 1864 he became engaged to princess Dagmar of Denmark. Early 1865 his health quickly turned for the worst, and in April 1865 he died, probably of TBC. Dagmar ended up marrying his brother...
When in Rome he became a member of a gang of painters called the Toordts. They often gathered in the mausoleum of Santa Constanze at the Via Nomentana, where probably still, in a niche, an inscription can be found: ‘Caspar van Wittel, alias De Toordts, 1680’.
