Byzantine Brunettes

Mucha: Byzantine Head - The Brunette (1897)

Unknown artist(s): Empress Theodora and Her Attendants, south wall of apse, Basilica di San Vitale, Ravenna, Italy (547)

next episode: Crimean Letters

  1. Interesting to compare and contrast - and note the almost sepia tones.

  2. Splendid juxtaposition of the Mucha work and the mosaic -- I also thought of the W.B. Yeats poem.
