Mid 19th Century Daguerréotypical Hairstyle

At my daguerreotypes (mid 19th century photo’s), and the dags I spot on the internet, a lot of the ladies have a ‘strange’ hairdo. I couldn’t imagine how it would look like in real life, but now I found a site from Anna Allen who recreates mid 19th century dresses and hairstyles. She has her own company making these dresses and she participates in living history.

  1. I think a centre parting was the only parting to have back then. Lovely collection.

  3. Try again. Rather a severe looking group, but well done to Anna.

  4. Good collection of photos, some of Civil War reenactments (big in some parts of the USA but not as much here).

  5. Wonderful collage. The hairstyles do look severe but with a sweet smile that can all change. I don't know what I'd have done in those days - I've always had a thick fringe to suit my (facial) profile!!

  6. Yes, agreed, a strange hairstyle--not one that would look good on me!
